Earl J. Steele, 78, 1642 Oak Hills, died Tuesday, May 7, 1991, at St. Francis Medical Center.
He was born March 17, 1913, in St. Louis, son of Horace G. and Maude Taylor Steele. He and the former Ina Jewell Lewallen were married March 12, 1938. She died Oct. 10, 1989.
Steele moved to Cape in 1963 from St. Louis. He owned Central Packing Co. from 1963-82. Steele was a member and deacon at First Christian Church, member of the Lions Club, and a member of Ninevah Masonic Lodge at Olney. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II.
Survivors include a son and daughter-in-law, Richard and Gayle Steele of Cape Girardeau; a brother, Herman Steele of Fruitland; two grandsons, Rick Steele of Columbia and Mike Steele of Cape Girardeau.
Funeral service will be at 11 a.m. Thursday at First Christian Church, with the Revs. Wallace Brown and Tracy Carroll officiating. Burial will be in Memorial Park.
Friends may call at Ford and Sons Mt. Auburn Chapel from 6-8 p.m. today.
