Earl A. Eakins, 85, of Delta died Wednesday, June 1, 2005, at Saint Francis Medical Center in Cape Girardeau. He was born Jan. 26, 1920, in Allenville, son of Robert and Louise Diamond Eakins. He and Oma Louise Bullinger were married Nov. 28, 1938. She died Jan. 19, 2001...

Earl A. Eakins, 85, of Delta died Wednesday, June 1, 2005, at Saint Francis Medical Center in Cape Girardeau.

He was born Jan. 26, 1920, in Allenville, son of Robert and Louise Diamond Eakins. He and Oma Louise Bullinger were married Nov. 28, 1938. She died Jan. 19, 2001.

Mr. Eakins had been a self-employed farmer/rancher. He was a member of National Order of Trench Rats in Kansas City, national officer for Cape County Disabled American Veterans Chapter 16, honorary recruiter for the U.S. Air Force, officer of Cape County Civil Air Patrol, member of Chaffee VFW Post 3127 and Chaffee American Legion Post 389 in Chaffee, Mo.

He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II and received a Purple Heart.

Survivors include two daughters, Martha L. Blumenberg of Whitewater, Brenda J. Eakins of Delta; three grandchildren, Timothy A. Jones of Fenton, Mo., Deborah R. Lagrand of Chaffee, Jessica L. Kinder of Escondido, Calif.; a great-granddaughter, Evelyn S. Kinder of Escondido; and a sister, Ruby Mabrey of Chaffee.

He was preceded in death by a son, Leslie Eakins; two brothers, Cletus and Wallace Eakins; four sisters, Leotta Macke, Myrtle Germain, Rosemary Hitt, and an infant.

Friends may call at Amick-Burnett Funeral Chapel in Chaffee after 4 p.m. today.

The funeral will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at the chapel, with the Rev. Randy Morse officiating. Burial will be in Morgan Memorial Park in Advance, Mo., with full military honors and Chaffee VFW rites.
