Earl Bess, 87, of Cape Girardeau passed away Oct. 24, 2015, at Saint Francis Medical Center in Cape Girardeau. He was born April 9, 1928, at Advance, Missouri, to Rosewell and Mona Sitz Bess.
Earl worked at Superior Electric in Cape Girardeau. He was a member of Bethany Baptist Church in Cape Girardeau.
Earl entered the U.S. Army on Nov. 29, 1951. He was wounded in Three Sisters, Korea, on Sept. 13, 1952. He was awarded the National Defense Medal, a Purple Heart, the Combat Infantryman Badge, the United Nations Service Medal and the Korean Service Medal with one campaign star. He was honorably discharged May 26, 1954.
Earl and Damie Ramsey were united in marriage March 29, 1949. She preceded him in death April 3, 2005.
Survivors include his daughter-in-law, Deborah Bess of Cape Girardeau; two grandchildren, Jillian and McKenzie Bess; and two sisters, Vera May Mason of Sikeston, Missouri, and Colleen McCormick of Xenia, Illinois.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife; his son, Chesley Bess; seven sisters; and two brothers.
Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. today at Bethany Baptist Church in Cape Girardeau.
The funeral will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday at Morgan Funeral Home in Advance, with the Rev. Shawn Wasson officiating. Burial will follow at Morgan Memorial Park.
