EARL B. SMITH

BURFORDVILLE -- Earl B. Smith, 84, of Burfordville, died Thursday, Jan. 4, 1996, at St. Francis Medical Center in Cape Girardeau.

He was born Sept. 10, 1911, in Bollinger County, son of Ulysses G. and Francia Bennett Smith. He and Elaine Wilferth were married Feb. 26, 1937. She died March 17, 1990.

Smith had farmed here 59 years. He also had been a partner in Kasten Implement Co. in Jackson, had been employed at Homestead in East Cape Girardeau, Ill., and was an agent with Missouri Fidelity Insurance Co.

He was a former member of Farm Bureau Board, and was a member of Jackson R-2 School Board during the re-organization of the school district.

Survivors include a son, Stanley Smith of Burfordville; a daughter, Angela Hopkins of Denver, Colo.; a friend, Pat Cunningham of Jackson; five grandchildren, and four great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by a sister.

Friends may call at McCombs Funeral Home in Jackson from 4-8 p.m. today.

Funeral service will be at 2 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home, with the Rev. Steven Sander officiating. Burial will be in Russell Heights Cemetery.
