Duane A. Pensel, 65, of Jackson, passed away Friday, May 10, 2024.
He was born Nov. 1, 1958, in Cape Girardeau, to Carl and Dorothy Schwab Pensel. He and Teresa “Terry” Gorton were married Sept. 6, 1986, at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Jackson.
Duane was baptized at Trinity Lutheran Church in Cape Girardeau and confirmed at Emanuel United Church of Christ in Jackson, where his membership remained. He was a Boy Scout and attained the rank of Eagle Scout.
Duane was a 1977 graduate of Jackson High School. He worked 33 years at Procter & Gamble, retiring in 2019.
Duane was a very proud father and grandfather and treasured spending time with his family. He was an avid St. Louis Cardinals fan and liked doing yard work, grilling, trout fishing, deer and turkey hunting and especially camping.
Loving survivors include his wife of 37 years, Terry Pensel of Jackson; children, Ryan (Amanda) Pensel of Gordonville and Morgan (Chad) Hankins of Dexter; grandchildren, Peyton and Elliot Hankins and Addysen, Aubrey and Rhett Pensel; his mother, Dorothy (late Carl) Pensel of Jackson; sisters, Julie Woodruff of St. Louis and Nancy Meier (Jerry Loucks) of Steeleville, Illinois; along with numerous nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles, and cousins.
Also surviving are Terry’s parents, Charles and LaWanda Gorton of Jackson; and her brothers, Scott (Diana) Gorton of Gordonville and Stuart (Jennifer) Gorton of Longmont, Colorado.
He was preceded in death by his father, Carl Pensel; paternal grandparents, Louis and Edna Kasten Pensel; maternal grandparents, Alvin and Della Lange Schwab; and his brother-in-law, James Meier.
Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m., Monday, May 13, at McCombs Funeral Home and Cremation Center in Jackson.
The funeral will be at 11 a.m., Tuesday, May 14, at the funeral home, with the Rev. Sam Roethemeyer officiating, assisted by Dr. Rodney Pensel. Interment will follow at Russell Heights Cemetery in Jackson.
