Duane L. Black, 76, of Cape Girardeau passed away Tuesday, Aug. 29, 2006, at Southeast Missouri Hospital.
He was born Aug. 1, 1930, in Glidden, Iowa, son of Paul E. and Lillian A. Robson Black. He and Midori Maruyama were married July 19, 1957. She died Feb. 23, 1991. He married Shirley Bennett on July 24, 1992. She died May 18, 2006.
Black served in the U.S. Army from 1948 to 1970 during the Korean War and the Vietnam War. He retired in 1970 after 22 years of active duty. Black was a member of the VFW Post 3838 in Cape Girardeau, and was of the Methodist faith.
Surviving children are Paul (Dawn) Black of Melbourne, Fla., Bill (Laura) Bennett of Cape Girardeau, Bob Bennett of Jackson and Cheryl (Ralph) Pittman of Murray, Ky.
Also surviving are three sisters, Mary (Johnny) Toyne of Lanesboro, Iowa, Arline Johnson of Pittsburg, Mo., and Onalee (Larry) Storesund of Glidden, Iowa.
In addition to his wives, he was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Darrell and Donald Black; three sisters, Lola Kuebler, Janice Wehmeyer and Camillia MacArthur.
A memorial service will be Friday, Sept. 8, at 10 a.m., at the Dahn and Woodhouse Funeral Home in Glidden, Iowa, with Pastor Chad Jennings officiating.
Local arrangements are by McCombs Funeral Home in Cape Girardeau.
