GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. -- Dr. Ray George Miller Jr., 95, passed away peacefully Saturday, May 28, 2022, in Grand Rapids.

Ray was an accomplished educator. He graduated from Jackson High School, received his bachelor of science degree from Southeast Missouri State University, master's degree from Southern Illinois University-Carbondale and doctorate from St. Louis University. Ray was principal of Washington School and Franklin School in Cape Girardeau and principal of Goodall School and Edgar Road School in St. Louis. Ray completed his career as director of the International School of Belgrade, Yugoslavia.

He served as president of the Missouri Association of Elementary School Principals and on the board of directors of the Institute of Reality Therapy.

Ray was a member of the St. Louis Shriners and volunteered at the Shriners Hospital for children and many other organizations.

Survivors include his wife of 71 years, Virginia Lee (Koch) Miller; children, Pamela (Philip) Luetkemeyer and Cynthia (Vincent) Falvo; seven grandchildren, Lindsay (Ryan) Snyder, Jennifer (Joseph) Fletcher, Megan Anes, James (Samantha) Luetkemeyer, Michael Luetkemeyer, John (Erika) LaPresto and Suzanne Falvo; and 11 great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his father, Ray George Miller; mother, Grace Luckey Miller; and sister, Dorothy Miller Marks.

A graveside service will be at 11 a.m. June 10 at Cape County Memorial Park Cemetery in Cape Girardeau with the Rev. Ellen Gurnon of First Presbyterian Church officiating.

A celebration of life will be held in late summer in Michigan.

Memorial contributions may be made to Shriners Hospital for Children/St. Louis or St. Jude Children's Research Hospital.

Ford and Sons Jackson Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
