PERRYVILLE -- Dr. Oscar A. Carron, 94, of Perryville died Tuesday, Nov. 26, 1996, at Perry County Nursing Home.
He was born Nov. 3, 1902, in Ste. Genevieve, son of Andrew and Anna Schilly Carron. He and Anne M. Eisenbeis were married Oct. 29, 1932.
Carron graduated from St. Louis University Medical School in 1929.
He began practice in St. Mary's in the spring of 1931, and then went to Perryville in July 1932. He continued in family practice 44 years, and delivered more than 6,000 babies.
Carron was a member of St. Vincent's Catholic Church, helped organize the parish council and was a member 15 years. He was a member of Knights of Columbus and served as grand knight two years.
He helped organize Perryville Country Club golf course, and during the 15 years he served on the board of directors the clubhouse was built and the golf course re-designed.
Carron joined with Perryville Farmers Association in 1947 to study the possibility of building a hospital in Perryville. The hospital opened in 1950 and he served as chairman of the Obstetrics Department 10 years.
He also helped in getting a county nursing home built in 1968 and served on the board of directors 15 years.
Survivors include his wife; a son, Dr. Chauncey Carron of Perryville; a daughter, Mary Collins of Bowling Green, Ky.; two sisters, Sister Andrea Carron of St. Louis, Edna Morrison of Ste. Genevieve; six grandchildren; and 20 great-grandchildren.
Friends may call at Miller Family Funeral Home from 4-9 p.m. Thursday, and Friday from 6:30-9:50 a.m. The parish wake and Knights of Columbus service will be at 7 p.m. Thursday, and rosary at 9 a.m. Friday.
Funeral Mass will be at 10 a.m. Friday at St. Vincent's Church, with the Rev. Kevin Fausz officiating. Burial will be in Mt. Hope Cemetery.
