Dr. Michael P. Brogan Jr., 82, of Cape Girardeau, formerly a doctor in Benton for 50 years, died Tuesday, Feb. 15, 1994 at the Ratliff Nursing Home. Dr. Michael P. Brogan Jr., 82, of Cape Girardeau, formerly a doctor in Benton for 50 years, died Tuesday, Feb. 15, 1994 at the Ratliff Nursing Home.

He was born Nov. 17, 1911 in Colquitt County Ga., the son of Michael and Ida Bullard Brogan.

He first married Guerrie Patterson. She preceded him in death.

He then married Lena Twaddell on April 12, 1952 in Benton Ill. She survives in Cape Girardeau.

He is also survived by two sons, Michael Brogan III, Middleburg, Fla., Patrick Brogan, Ft. Collins, Colo.; five grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.

Five brothers and two sisters preceded him in death.

He graduated from the Kirksville College of Osteopathic Medicine in 1939.

He practiced medicine in Benton for 50 years, retiring in 1989.

At Benton, he served on the Scott County Draft Board during World War II, the Benton town board and was past president of the school board at Benton.

Brogan was a charter member of the Southeast Missouri State University Booster Club.

He was a member of the Cape Girardeau Country Club and Kimbeland Country Club and was an avid golfer. He was also a member of the Benton United Methodist Church.

Funeral service will be held Friday at 2 p.m. at Ford and Sons Funeral Home at Benton with the Rev. G.M. Teeter and the Rev. Ed Brasington officiating.

Burial will follow in Cape County Memorial Park.

No visitation is planned prior to the funeral.
