Frederick Ernest Rawlins died Sunday, Nov. 19, 2000, at Southeast Missouri Hospital, where he practiced the greater part of his life.
Frederick Rawlins was born April 19, 1916, in Thebes, Ill. He graduated from Cape Central High School, Southeast Missouri State University, and taught school at Wardell, Mo., and Ullin, Ill.
He graduated from medical school at St. Louis University in 1950. He was a member of Cape County and American Medical Associations, fellow of American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists and was a 50-year member of Missouri State Medical Association.
He began his practice in Cape Girardeau in 1954 in obstetrics and gynecology, retiring in May 2000. He delivered more than 8,000 babies during his practice.
He is survived by Judy Walter Rawlins, his wife and devoted companion since 1988. He is survived by four children: Mary Lou Rawlins Barclay of Illinois, Catherine Ann Rawlins Glassbrenner of St. Louis, Frederick Albert Rawlins II, D.O., of Cape Girardeau, and Alan Stuart Rawlins of St. Louis.
He is also survived by seven grandchildren: Frederick Albert Rawlins III, Jonas Max Rawlins, Andy Glassbrenner, Will Glassbrenner, Dawn Barclay Schain, Sarah Rawlins and Benjamin Rawlins. He has one living sister, Amy Caldwell of Carbondale, Ill.
Lillian Catherine Morrow Rawlins, his first wife, preceded him in death in 1985.
Dr. Rawlins, known as a physician with an open door to all patients, a friend to his patients, and a physician who gave endlessly of his time, will be remembered and missed by his patients, friends and colleagues.
Visitation will be 4-8 p.m. today at Ford and Sons Mt. Auburn Funeral Home.
A public funeral service will be at 1 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home, with Dr. Clayton Smith officiating. Private entombment will be in Memorial Park Mausoleum after the funeral.
