Dr. Edward Dunne Campbell, 90, of Cape Girardeau died Sunday, Oct. 17, 2004, at Missouri Veterans Home.
He was born Dec. 1, 1913, in Xenia, Ill., son of Frank C. and Georgia Below Campbell. He and Bernadean Avis Campbell were married March 18, 1937, in St. Charles, Mo. She died Aug. 12, 1994.
Dr. Campbell was a member of the Cape Girardeau County Medical Society, Missouri State Medical Association, American Medical Association, Midwest Society of Colon and Rectal Surgeons, St. Louis Society of Colon and Rectal Surgeons, American Society of Colon and Rectal Surgeons, International Society of Colon and Rectal Surgeons, and the royal Society of Medicine of the British Commonwealth in the Division of Colo-Proctology.
He was a lifetime member of the Board of Directors of the American Cancer Society. He served on the Board of Directors of the Cape Girardeau County Health Unit during its formation and building stages. He was a member and supporter of Southeast Missouri State University Booster Club and Foundation, member of Centenary United Methodist Church and served on its administrative board, and was a member of Methodist Men's Club.
Dr. Campbell served in the U.S. Army from July 1, 1942, to Feb. 3, 1946.
He is survived by four children, Dr. Edward Campbell of Phoenix, Ariz., Sally Weisser of Fort Collins, Colo., Susan and husband Mickey Roper and Sandy Campbell of Cape Girardeau.
Also six grandchildren, Reagan Roper McNeil and husband Roger of Jonesboro, Ark., Shannon Roper Howard and husband Michael of Salt Lake City, Utah, Roy Roper and wife Christy of Nashville, Tenn., Rachel Roper Maynard and husband Jim of Pretoria, South Africa, Kimberly Rhannon Weisser of Denver, Colo., Stacey Nicole Weisser of Fort Collins; eight great-grandchildren, Jackson Campbell, Emma Rogers and James Rogers McNeil, Walker Leigh and Michael Middleton Howard and Rebecca Grace, Joshua Mauk and Caleb McKinley Roper.
His wife; parents; and three brothers, Howard, Roy and Frank Campbell, preceded him in death.
Friends may call at Ford and Sons Mount Auburn Funeral Home from 4 to 8 p.m. Thursday.
The funeral will be at 10 a.m. Friday at Centenary United Methodist Church, with Dr. Clayton Smith officiating. Entombment will be in Cape County Memorial Park Mausoleum.
Pallbearers will be Howard Campbell, David Campbell, Joe Campbell, Mickey Roper, Roy Roper, Roger McNeil and Sam Below.
Honorary pallbearers will be Coy Farmer, Richard Esicar, Paul Miles, Michael Howard, Jim Maynard and Jim Weisser.
