Dr. Dennis James Straubinger, 67, of Cape Girardeau passed away Wednesday, Feb. 27, 2019, at Life Care Center.

He was born June 2, 1951, in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, to George and Gladys Straubinger. He and Rosemary Lamendola were married in 1975 in Des Moines, Iowa.

Dennis was a 1969 graduate of Perry Community High School in Perry, Iowa. He attended Iowa State University, where he graduated with a Bachelor of Science in zoology with distinction and minors in chemistry and bacteriology. Dennis also earned a degree from the University of Osteopathic Medicine and Health Sciences in Des Moines. His post-graduate training included hospitals in New Jersey, Pittsburgh, New York and Wisconsin. Later, he attended the Medical College of Wisconsin, Milwaukee Department of Preventive Medicine, and earned a Master of Public Health in occupational medicine.

From 1978 until 2001, he practiced medicine in Iowa and Illinois. He was corporate physician to Procter & Gamble from 2001 to 2004 and worked as a staff physician in occupational medicine for Saint Francis Medical Center in Cape Girardeau from 2001 until his retirement in 2017.

He was board-certified by the American College of Occupational and Environmental Medicine and was a member of the American College of Occupational and Environmental Medicine and a past member and certified with the American Osteopathic Board of Family Medicine.

Dennis served his country in the U.S. Air Guard, Air Force Reserve and Army National Guard, retiring as a lieutenant colonel in the Army Reserve.

Loving survivors include his wife, Rosemary Straubinger of Cape Girardeau; daughters and their husbands, Amanda and Trent Reedy of Spokane, Washington, and Kristina and Aaron Porter of Chicago; brother, George Straubinger of Davenport, Iowa; half-sister, Jan McGowan of Pompton Plains, New Jersey; and granddaughter, Verity Katherine Reedy.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

A private celebration of life will be held at a later date.
