OVERLAND PARK, Kan. -- Dr. Delbert Brammell Brunton, 96, of Overland Park, formerly from Cape Girardeau, died Tuesday, June 25, 2019, at Village Shalom in Overland Park.

He was born June 27, 1922, in Wenatchee, Washington, to Walter Clive and Cora Etta Brammell Brunton. He married Mary Helen Steimle on June 24, 1944, in Detroit. She preceded him in death June 14, 2010.

Delbert was a transplant to Cape Girardeau from Washington State, but he was very committed to his community and to dentistry. He served as president of the Southeast District Dental Society, trustee on the Board of Governors of the Missouri Dental Association, treasurer of the American Heart Association local affiliate, board member of the Otahki Girl Scout Council and was a longtime Sunday School teacher and deacon at the First Baptist Church in Cape Girardeau.

He also served in the U.S. Navy during the Korean War from 1950 to 1953.

He retired from the private practice of dentistry in 1988, after practicing for 42 years, but continued to be an inspiration to many, including grandchildren.

He is survived by his three daughters, Judith K. (Dr. James) Carter of Overland Park, Dr. Janet B. (Dr. Patrick) Ruopp of Cape Girardeau and Jill B. Brunton of Overland Park; three grandchildren, Dr. Jodianne T. Carter of Overland Park, Dr. Brenton (Alyssa) Ruopp of O'Fallon, Illinois, and Dr. Alyssa (Corey) Baker of Cape Girardeau; and three great-grandchildren, Ethan Carter Ellis of Overland Park, Piper Elisabeth Ruopp of O'Fallon and Beatrix Mary Baker of Cape Girardeau.

A visitation will be held from 3 to 4:30 p.m. Friday at Ford and Sons Mount Auburn Funeral Home, with the funeral service immediately following at 4:30 p.m. at the funeral home.

Burial will be at Cape County Memorial Park with full military rites conducted by the Missouri Honor Guard.
