KIRKWOOD, Mo. -- Douglas W. "Doug" Schlegel fell asleep in Jesus on Wednesday, Nov. 2, 2016.

Beloved husband of 21 years to Laura L. Anderson Schlegel; cherished father of Morgan C. Schlegel and David W. Schlegel; loving son of Jerry and Pat Schlegel; dear brother of Matthew (Kristen) Schlegel and Lesley (John) Werner; dear son-in-law of David and Shirley Anderson; dear brother-in-law of Shar Anderson (Sylvia Hesse); dear uncle of Seth and Anne Marie Schlegel and Reagan, Wilson and Clayton Werner; and dear cousin and friend to many.

Doug was born and grew up in Cape Girardeau. He moved to St. Louis to begin his teaching and coaching career at Clayton High School. He then transferred to Webster Groves High School, where he continued teaching and was the assistant coach for football and basketball.

Doug met the love of his life, Laura, in 1992, and they were married in 1995.

There was nothing Doug loved more than spending time with his family. He especially loved coaching Morgan and David's basketball, soccer and baseball teams for a span of 10 years.

Doug and Laura worked side-by-side at their Krispy Kreme franchise for several years prior to being diagnosed with acute myeloid leukemia in November 2013.

Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Monday at Bopp Chapel, 10610 Manchester Road in Kirkwood.

A memorial service will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday at St. Paul Lutheran Church of Des Peres.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society, 1972 Innerbelt Business Center Drive, St. Louis, MO 63114.
