Doug Niemeier, 70, of Cape Girardeau died Sunday, March 18, 2018, at Saint Francis Medical Center.
He was born Feb. 6, 1948, in Cape Girardeau to Rudy and Lorene Haman Niemeier. He and Donna Richardson were married March 22, 1969, at St. Mary's Cathedral in Cape Girardeau.
He was a 1967 graduate of Jackson High School.
Doug served in the Army in Vietnam.
He worked as an automobile mechanic and then as a mechanic on farm equipment. He retired from Wm. Nobbe & Co.
He was a lifetime member of Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 3838 and Disabled American Veterans. He was also proud to be a member of Vietnam Vets Legacy Motorcycle Club.
Survivors include his wife, Donna Niemeier of Cape Girardeau; three daughters, Dana Shobe of Cape Girardeau, Danel Niemeier of Raleigh, North Carolina, and Debby Barnes of Cape Girardeau; a sister, Janet Ryan, and a brother, Michael Niemeier, both of Missouri; five grandchildren, Brandon and Nicholas Shobe and Greyson Niemeier and Dylan and Lauryn Barnes; and his four-legged companion, Little Bit.
Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. today at Ford and Sons Mount Auburn Funeral Home in Cape Girardeau.
Funeral service will be at 11 a.m. Thursday at the funeral home, with the Rev. Donny Ford officiating.
Committal service will be at the Missouri State Veterans Cemetery in Bloomfield at 1 p.m. Thursday, with military rites by the Missouri Honors Team.
