Dorothy L. "Dotty" Davis, 89, of Cape Girardeau passed away Tuesday, Sept. 17, 2013, at Sunny Acres Nursing Home in Petersburg, Ill.

She was born June 9, 1924, in Cairo, Ill., daughter of Stephen and Iva Hazel Davis.

Dotty graduated from Cairo High School in 1942. She attended Southern Illinois University, majoring in music. She began her career with the U.S. Weather Bureau in Chicago, working at Midway and O'Hare Airports and the University of Chicago from January 1944 until August 1979. She transferred to the Springfield, Ill., Weather Service and retired in April 1988 and moved to Cape Girardeau. During Dotty's tenure she was assigned to positions with the Experimental Aircraft Association in Oshkosh, Wis., and Rockford, Ill., and also had an assignment at Newport, W.Va.

She was a member of the Presbyterian Church in River Forest, Ill., and the Meteorological Society. She was an avid golfer and traveled all over America.

Dotty is survived by many good friends, and was an honorary member of the Ortgessen family in Petersburg.

She was preceded in death by her parents.

The funeral will be at 11 a.m. Thursday at Hurley Funeral Home in Petersburg, with the Rev. James Palakudy officiating.

Visitation will be one hour before the funeral.

There also will be a service at 2 p.m. Friday, with a visitation one hour before, at Ford and Sons Mount Auburn Funeral Home in Cape Girardeau. Burial will be in Anna City Cemetery in Anna, Ill.
