Dorothy Taylor

Dorothy A. "Billie" Henson Taylor, 88, of Cape Girardeau died Tuesday, Oct. 16, 2007, at her home.

She was born Aug. 13, 1919, in Gideon, Mo., daughter of William Carrol and Birdie Belle Skaggs Henson. She and Jack W. Taylor Sr. were married April 11, 1941, in Cape Girardeau. He died Oct. 28, 2005.

Taylor was a member of Maple United Methodist Church, where she was a Sunday school teacher, communion assistant, member of its quilters club and did crafts at church. She was a member of Post Office Ladies Auxiliary, volunteered with Meals On Wheels, had been a Brownie and Cub Scout volunteer and was active in grade school PTA.

She was a graduate of Central High School. Dorothy thoroughly enjoyed family time, music and dancing, quilting and was an avid reader.

Survivors include a son, Jack Taylor Jr. and wife Melinda Elizabeth of Austin, Texas; a daughter, Sharon L. "Sherry" Chernow of Ventura, Calif.; a sister, Marjorie Meystedt of Cape Girardeau; two grandchildren, Kerry Suhr and husband Matt of Houston, Kimberly Monroe and husband Dan of San Diego; two great-grandchildren, Aaron Suhr of Houston, Ryan Monroe of San Diego; and numerous nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; a daughter, Catherine Ann Taylor; a brother, Paul Henson; two sisters, Thelma Snerly and Rae McGraugh.

Friends may call from 6 to 8 p.m. today at Ford and Sons Mount Auburn Funeral Home.

The funeral will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at the funeral home, with the Rev. Jim Cooper officiating. Burial will be in Lorimier Cemetery.
