Dorothy Imogene Singleton, 77, of Cape Girardeau went to be with her savior Tuesday, July 20, 2010, at her home.
She was born Jan. 17, 1933, at Oriole, daughter of Omer Lee and Louise Jane Kinnard Abernathy. She and Richard Malone Singleton Sr. were married July 24, 1950, and were together 26 years.
Dorothy was of the Baptist belief and attended Iona Baptist Church in Oriole. She worked at Procter & Gamble 20 years, retiring in 1997. She enjoyed being with and taking care of her family.
Loving survivors include seven children, Jennifer (John) Seabaugh and Melissa "Liz" Singleton of Millersville, Becca (Ron) Smith of Polson, Mont., Rick Singleton of Oriole, Cindy (Curtis) Grenz and Bradley Singleton of Cape Girardeau, Nancy (Ron) Case of Washington, D.C.; three sisters, Rosa "Tillie" Farrow and Jenni Rastl of Cape Girardeau, Leola Richardson of Oriole; and a brother, Gilbert Abernathy of Peoria, Ill.
Also nine grandchildren, Garrett, Richard, Leslie, Michael, Melissa, Ryan, Amy, Kory and Amanda; eight great-grandchildren; and many who are considered family and who were always welcome in her home.
She was preceded in death by her parents; a brother, Jerome Abernathy; and a grandson, Eric.
Friends may call from 5 to 8 p.m. Saturday and from 11:30 a.m. Sunday to service time at the chapel of McCombs Funeral Home in Jackson.
The funeral will be at 1:30 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home, with the Rev. Kevin Rhodes officiating. Interment will be in Russell Heights Cemetery in Jackson.
The family suggests memorials be made to Iona Baptist Church or Southeast Hospice.
