Dorothy Penzel, 77, 1844 Woodlawn, died Tuesday, April 22, 1997, at Ratliff Care Center.
She was born Oct. 5, 1919, at Jackson, daughter of Edwin L. and Alma Gockel Kies. She and George A. Penzel were married June 5, 1944, at Camp San Luis Obispo, Calif.
Penzel attended Southeast Missouri State University, and graduated from Gradwohl Institute of Medical Technology.
She had been a lab technician at various hospitals, including Southeast Missouri Hospital. She was a member of First Presbyterian Church, was one of its first women deacons, and had served as an elder. She was a member of PEO Chapter FY, and Tri Psi sorority.
Survivors include her husband; two daughters, Carolyn Ford and Georganne Syler of Cape Girardeau; a brother, Charles Kies of St. Louis; and three granddaughters.
Friends may call at Ford and Sons Mt. Auburn Chapel from 4-8 p.m. today.
Funeral service will be at 11 a.m. Thursday at First Presbyterian Church, with the Rev. Brendan Dempsey officiating. Entombment will be in Memorial Park Mausoleum.
