Dorothy Mae (Kassel) McLain, 86, of Cape Girardeau died Saturday, Aug. 6, 2016, at Fountainbleau Lodge in Cape Girardeau.
She was born Saturday, Aug. 31, 1929, in Cape Girardeau to Charles G. and Amanda D. (Schlimme) Kassel.
Dorothy married the love of her life, Glenn E. McLain, when they eloped in Arkansas on June 15, 1946. They enjoyed over 46 years of marriage before his death in 1992.
While raising her children, she worked for Davis Electric and Southeast Missouri State University. Later, she worked for LaCroix Nursing Home.
Dorothy was a former member of Southside Baptist Church until she and Glenn found their faith home with Trinity Lutheran Church in Egypt Mills.
Dorothy loved to cook and go dancing with her husband. She also enjoyed camping and being outdoors.
After her husband died, Dorothy enjoyed going shopping and flea marketing with her daughter.
Although only a resident of Fountainbleau Lodge for a short time, she made many friends who will miss "Miss Dorothy." She was crowned the Valentine's Day Queen in February.
Dorothy is survived by four children, David (Lynn) McLain of Port Charlotte, Florida, George (Jean Ann) McLain and Randy (Kathy) McLain of Cape Girardeau, and Patty (Larry) Miller of Pocahontas; seven grandchildren, Monica (Ben) McLain Duncan of Benton, Missouri, Malinda McLain of Chaffee, Missouri, Renee McLain and Aleeia Caldwell of Cape Girardeau, Shawn (Laura) McLain of St. Louis, Crystal (Chad) Jenkins of Jackson and Eric McLain (Brenna Goodwin) of Arlington, Virginia; and seven great-grandchildren, Christopher Watson, Morgan Caldwell, Marienna Caldwell, Waylon Sheffer, Kellen McLain, Garrett McLain and Axel Duncan. She leaves behind many other relatives, nieces and nephews.
Dorothy was preceded in death by her parents; beloved husband; grandson Matthew McLain; sisters, Mable Johnson, Eva Bryant, Hazel McLain, Erma Harmon and Edna Kassel; brothers Lawrence, Bud and Nick Kassel; and twin brother, Doyle.
Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Tuesday at Ford and Sons Mount Auburn Funeral Home in Cape Girardeau.
Funeral service will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday at the funeral home, with the Rev. Barry L. Pfanstiel officiating.
Burial will be at Trinity Lutheran Church Cemetery in Egypt Mills.
Memorial contributions may be given to Trinity Lutheran Egypt Mills.
