CAIRO, Ill. -- Dorothy Jean Franklin Mayberry, 80, of Cairo passed away at midnight Tuesday, Jan. 23, 2018, at Charleston Manor in Charleston, Missouri.
She was born Sept. 3, 1937, in Cairo, daughter of the late Clurie Cullum Franklin and Florence Lucille Kennedy Franklin.
She was of the Baptist faith and was the Alexander County, Illinois, tax assessor for 26 years. She was also a former Southern Bell Telephone operator.
She was preceded in death by her parents; three sisters; and three brothers.
Survivors include her husband, Franklin Dewayne Mayberry of Cairo; a son, Daniel Shane "Dan" Mayberry; two daughters, Cynthia Lucille Mayberry of Keller, Texas, and Kimberly Jean Muster of Alton, Illinois; a brother, David Lee Franklin of Tamms, Illinois; two sisters, Carolyn Sue Smith of Hendersonville, Tennessee, and Barbara Ann Johnson of Peoria, Illinois; six grandchildren; several great-grandchildren; and nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Friday at Jones Funeral Home-Tamms.
Funeral services will be at 11:30 a.m. Saturday at the funeral home, with Larry L. Potts officiating. Interment will follow in St. John's Cemetery in Dongola, Illinois.
