CAMPBELL, Mo. -- Dorothy June Majors, 101, formerly of Campbell, went home to be with her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ Saturday, June 11, 2022, at Auburn Creek Assisted Living in Cape Girardeau.
She was born June 5, 1921, under a tree along the Canadian River in Oklahoma, because members of her family were migrant workers at the time. She was the youngest child of Eliphus and Minnie Prater. Dorothy married Hallett O. Majors on Dec. 27, 1937 in Hayti, Missouri. He died Feb. 16, 1991.
Dorothy was a member of First Baptist Church in Campbell for over 72 years, where she taught Sunday school, sang in the choir, and led Woman's Missionary Union and Training Union, along with many other church activities. If the church door was open, she was there. Her love of the Lord was evident to all.
She was a gifted seamstress, making garments and costumes for many people in the Campbell area. She taught special education at Malden, Missouri, elementary school until her retirement in 1986. After retirement, she enjoyed painting landscapes and quilt making. Many people are proud owners of one of Miss Dorothy's quilts. She was a very generous person who loved to cook large feasts for her family and many friends. She gave wholeheartedly, especially her "bear hugs."
Dorothy is survived by her son, Hal (Bonnie) Majors of Cape Girardeau; three grandchildren, Summer (Chad) Halter and their children, Claire, Vaugh, Gwen, Mercy and Judah of Jackson; Carson (Elle) Majors and their children, Drea, Jett and Zeke of Toronto, Canada; and Tyler Majors of Port Charlotte, Florida.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, two brothers and two sisters.
Visitation will begin at 10 a.m. Wednesday at the First Baptist Church in Campbell.
Funeral service will follow at 11:30 a.m. Marty Carlyle, her former pastor, will officiate. Interment will follow at Woodlawn Cemetery in Campbell.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that any memorials be given to First Baptist Church, 815 Allen Road, Campbell, MO 63933.
Landress Funeral Home in Campbell is in charge of arrangements.
