GORDONVILLE -- Dorothy E. Macke, 92, of Gordonville died Friday, June 11, 1999, at the Lutheran Home in Cape Girardeau.
She was born Oct. 22, 1906, daughter of Robert and Louise Bartels Probst. She and Albert H. Macke were married Oct. 26, 1929. He died Dec. 23, 1957.
The Mackes owned and operated Macke Store from 1929-75. She was a life member of Christ Lutheran Church and its Ladies Aid, and had been a Sunday School teacher. She was a member of Southeast Missouri Hospital Auxiliary, and Gordonville 4-H Club more than 40 years, and served as community leader 23 years.
Macke also served as president of the University of Missouri Extension Council; served as Republican committeewoman for Hubble Township; founded and served as secretary and treasurer of Public Water District 4. She received the Friend of Agriculture Award from Cape Girardeau Chamber of Commerce in 1979.
Survivors include a son, H. Weldon Macke of Gordonville; two daughters, Dorothy Ramsey and Alberta Dougan of Jackson; four grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren, four stepgrandchildren and five stepgreat-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by five brothers and three sisters.
Friends may call at McCombs Funeral Home in Jackson from 4-8 p.m. today.
Funeral will be at 2 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home, with the Rev. D. Lee Cullen officiating. Burial will be in Zion United Methodist Church Cemetery west of Gordonville.
