Dorothy Clara Lichtenegger passed away peacefully Saturday, Dec. 5, 2020, on her 93rd birthday, at the Villas of Jackson.
She was born Dec. 5, 1927, to Charles G. and Anita C. Metz Grebing, near Frohna, Missouri.
Her baptism was at Trinity Lutheran Church, Altenburg, Missouri, and she continued her Christian education at Concordia Lutheran Church, Frohna.
On June 4, 1949, Dorothy and Floyd Lichtenegger were joined in marriage, at Concordia Lutheran Church. She assisted Floyd on their dairy farm near Pocahontas, and in service stations in Altenburg and Fruitland. She was an active member in St. John's Lutheran Church in Pocahontas, in YMPS, choir, women's Bible study, and was a Sunday school teacher and vacation Bible school teacher. She was a 70-year member of the county FCE. Floyd and Dorothy were hosts to two displaced German families in 1952.
Dorothy was preceded in death by her husband, Floyd, on March 26, 2012. Also preceding her were her parents; brothers, Raymond Grebing and his wife, Mildred, Milton Grebing and Vernon Grebing; a sister, Ruth Bremer and her husband, Willis; sister-in-law, Vera Leimer and her husband, Tillman.
Dorothy is survived by four children, James (Gail) Lichtenegger of Jackson, Bill Lichtenegger of Prairie Village, Kansas, Bob (Cindy) Lichtenegger of Jackson and Stan (Effy) Lichtenegger of Huntington Beach, California; eight grandchildren, Jenise (Heather), Sarah (Gregg), Kelley (Tyler), Cheryl (Nick), Paul (Alexius), Jacob, Kessler and Emily; and two great-granddaughters, Caroline and Emma. Also surviving are a sister, Laverne (Vernon) Mirly of Monrovia, California; two sisters-in-law, Dorene Grebing and Helen Grebing of Frohna; brother-in-law, Herb (Barbara) Lichtenegger of Jackson; and 27 nephews and nieces.
There will be no visitation.
A private family service will be held at St. John's Lutheran Church in Pocahontas, with the Rev. Rod Benkendorf officiating. A celebration of life will be held at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials to St. John's Lutheran Church or the American Heart Association.
The family would like to thank Legacy Hospice and the staff and residents at the Villas of Jackson for their care of Dorothy.
