Dorothy Marie Jany Kerkhover, 84, formerly of Chester, Ill., and Perryville, Mo., died Friday, Aug. 2, 2013, at the Lutheran Home in Cape Girardeau.
She was born March 16, 1929, in St. Louis, to Mathew and Angela Saale Devos. She and Herman M. Jany of Chester were married June 27, 1953. He preceded her in death in 1984. Dorothy and Louis J. Kerkhover of Chester were married in April 1986, with 16 years of marriage before Louis' death in 2002.
Survivors include children Michele (Brad) Wittenborn of Cape Girardeau and Michael (Rhonda) Jany of Winamac, Ind.; three grandchildren, Daniel (Andrea) Wittenborn of Vienna, Va., Scott (Kelley) Wittenborn of Columbia, Mo., and Rachel (Brad) Elston of Francesville, Ind.; two great-grandchildren, Ethan Wittenborn of Vienna and Easton Elston of Francesville; three stepchildren, Sandra (John) Mahon of Moline, Ill., Gary (Lynn) Kerkhover of Rockwood, Ill., and Jeff (Diane) Kerkhover of Chester; and numerous stepgrandchildren and great-stepgrandchildren.
Dorothy was preceded in death by her parents, husbands and two half brothers in Brussels, Belgium.
She was a legal secretary eight years in law offices in St. Louis and Chester; worked six years in a tax accounting office in Chester, and 20 years as secretary to the business administrator of Menard Correctional Center in Chester. She was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church in Chester.
Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Friday and from 7:30 to 9:30 a.m. Saturday at Pechacek-McClure Funeral Home in Chester.
Funeral Mass will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at St. Mary's Church in Chester, with the Rev. Ben Stern officiating. Burial will be in St. Mary's Cemetery.
Memorials are preferred to St. Mary's School in Chester, or to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital in Memphis, Tenn.
