Dorothy L. Jones, 75, of Cape Girardeau died Monday, June 6, 2011, at Life Care Centers of Cape Girardeau.

She was born Jan. 6, 1936, in Hickman, Ky., to Jimmy and Martha Presler Bass.

Mrs. Jones graduated from Blodgett Grade School and High School, and from Sikeston Practical Nursing Program in Sikeston, Mo.

Dorothy was a licensed practical nurse with Ferguson Medical Group in Sikeston more than 20 years. She was a member of Bethany Baptist Church in Cape Girardeau.

She was a friendly and loving mother, grandmother, sister and friend. Anyone who knew her knew what a wonderful, funny, witty person she was. She was filled with lots of great stories and lots of laughs.

Survivors include two daughters, Beth Wessell of Cape Girardeau, Candi Tortorice of Tuscaloosa, Ala.; a son, Craig Wheeler of Cape Girardeau; four sisters, Jimmie Lou (Terry) Bell of Sikeston, Cindy (Mike) Platt of Jackson, Mickey Miller of Dade City, Fla., Dianne Watson, of Springfield, Mo.; seven grandchildren, Todd Wheeler, Fallon Kesterson, Whitney Wessell, Madison Putney, Dominique Tortorice, Carissa and Caylee Wheeler; eight great-grandchildren; several nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; a son, Jeffrey Wheeler; a brother, Stevie Bass; a sister, Glynda Davis; and a great-grandchild, Cora Wheeler.

Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Thursday at Ford and Sons Mount Auburn Chapel.

The funeral will be at 11 a.m. Friday at the chapel, with the Rev. Jason Davis officiating. Entombment will be in Cape County Memorial Park Mausoleum.

Memorial contributions may be given to American Cancer Society or Bethany Baptist Church in Cape Girardeau.
