Dorothy Ann House, 90, of Cape Girardeau passed away on Jan. 25, 2021, in Cape Girardeau

Dorothy was born Nov. 15, 1930, to William Maier and Pauline Maier Robison in Cape Girardeau,. She received both her bachelor's degree and a master's degree in teaching from Southeast Missouri State University.

Dorothy was a social butterfly who loved to converse with people from all walks of life. She was an ardent gardener for much of her life, and was declared "Best Garden" several times over in her neighborhood. She loved to be out in nature and chose to take a daily walk until her mid '80s. She also would teach English as a second language after her retirement as a remedial reading teacher.

Dorothy was extremely family oriented and was extremely proud of her daughter, Sherry Estes, for her time as a lawyer and single mother. She took the time to tell each of her grandchildren how proud of them she was every chance she got. She loved to dance any time a song with a good beat would play, and would encourage her grandchildren to dance with her.

Dorothy was preceded in the next phase of living by her parents William G. Maier and Pauline Maier Robison; her maternal and paternal grandparents; as well as her son, Bradford Estes.

Even up until her passing, Dorothy was a firecracker of a woman. She had an affinity for cookies that was matched only by the Cookie Monster. Dorothy exuded life and light into any room she entered, and was fondly thought of by all. She was fiercely loyal and loving, and also a bit of a goofball. She is survived by her daughter, Sherry Estes of Cape Girardeau and her children, Ixchell Ortiz Estes, Cristina Rodriguez and her husband Carlos, and Willi Eden, all of Chicago; her grandchild, Stephen Thompson and his wife Mandy, as well as their two daughters, Kelsey and Mercedes of St. Louis; and a host of other relatives.

A socially-distant celebration of life will be held at 10 a.m. on Friday in the auditorium of La Croix Methodist Church, 3201 Lexington Ave., Cape Girardeau, which can be attended online at: us02web.zoom.us/j/85173978411

In lieu of flowers, the family would appreciate donations in Dorothy's name to the Alzheimer's Association.

Ford and Sons Funeral Home on Mount Auburn Road is in charge of arrangements.

Online condolences may be shared at www.fordandsonsfuneralhome.com.
