Dorothy May Hickam, 72, of Jackson died Thursday, April 24, 2014, at Monticello House.
She was born Feb. 6, 1942, in St. Louis, to Milford Lester and Elsa May Dow Hickam.
Dorothy is a graduate of Central High School, and received a bachelor of science degree in education from Southeast Missouri State University. She taught English and social studies at Schultz School in Cape Girardeau, and also taught in the Kansas City and Leopold, Missouri, school systems.
She was a Master Gardener and loved spending time in her garden. She also loved to knit and crochet. She was of the Episcopalian belief.
Survivors include a brother, Jon Hickam of Jackson; and two nieces, Vivian Regna of Imperial, Missouri, and Judith Smith of St. Louis.
She was preceded in death by her parents; a brother, Jim Hickam; and a sister, Carolyn Jane Smith.
Visitation will be from 1 p.m. to service time Sunday at Cracraft-Miller Funeral Home in Jackson.
A memorial service will be at 2 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home, with the Rev. Janet Hopkins officiating. Burial will be in Goshen Cemetery near Oak Ridge.
