Dorothy Louise Gibbs, 90, of Scott City passed away Thursday, Feb. 16, 2012, at her home.
She was born April 23, 1921, in Ancel, to Joe and Alvina Welter Burger. She and Albert "Red" Gibbs were married Aug. 31, 1940, in Kelso, Mo. He preceded her in death April 12, 1966.
After the death of her husband, Dorothy took on different jobs to help raise her six children who were still at home. She finally settled into child care, which she did until retiring in 1986.
Loving survivors include two daughters, Mary (Jack) Evans and Jane Duncan of Scott City; five sons, Bob (Leona) Gibbs of Salmon, Idaho, Bill (Karen) Gibbs, Larry (Denise) Gibbs, Garry (Susie) Gibbs and Tom Gibbs, all of Scott City; 13 grandchildren; 27 great-grandchildren; and a brother, Ralph (Mary) Burger of Scott City.
In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by a daughter, Mary Ellen; a son, Jon David; three sisters, Alice and Mary Burger, Bernie Drury; four brothers, Harold, Jim, Adolph "Rusty" and Tom Burger.
Friends may visit from 4 to 8 p.m. today at Amick-Burnett Funeral Chapel in Scott City. A prayer service will be held at 7.
The funeral will be at 10 a.m. Monday at St. Joseph Catholic Church, with the Rev. Oliver Clavin as celebrant. Interment will be in St. Joseph Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to American Cancer Society or Southeast Hospice.
