CHESTER, Ill. -- Dorothy Fortner, a native of Bernie, died Friday, Sept. 4, 1998, at the 3 Springs Nursing Home in Chester. She was 71.
She was born June 3, 1927, daughter of James Vernon and Eugenia Sanders Nunn. She married George L. Fortner in St. Louis on May 13, 1956. He died Nov. 14, 1994.
She was a former resident of Stoddard County who had lived in St. Louis and California before moving to Chester in 1985. She was a Baptist.
She is survived by a daughter, Marilyn "Carol" Aldridge of Percy, Ill.; a stepdaughter, Nondus Fortner of St. Louis; three stepsons, Anthony Fortner of Florida, George "Rocky" Fortner Jr. and Edward Fortner, both of Los Angeles; a brother, Ernest Nunn of Tipton, Ind.; three grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; and a great-great-grandchild.
She was preceded in death by her parents, six brothers and two sisters.
Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. today at Watkins and Sons Funeral Home in Dexter. Funeral will be at 10:30 a.m. Monday at the funeral chapel, with the Rev. Phil Warren officiating.
Burial will be at the Bloomfield Cemetery in Bloomfield.
