Dorothy Jean Brown, 85, of Cape Girardeau died Thursday, Nov. 29, 2012, at the Lutheran Home. She was born Nov. 24, 1927, in Marston, Mo., to Carl and Marillian Ellis Richardson. She was adopted by Fred L. and Malinda Loos Whitson in 1932. She and Robert Charles Brown Sr. were married June 30, 1946, in Cape Girardeau. He died Aug. 10, 1998...

Dorothy Jean Brown, 85, of Cape Girardeau died Thursday, Nov. 29, 2012, at the Lutheran Home.

She was born Nov. 24, 1927, in Marston, Mo., to Carl and Marillian Ellis Richardson. She was adopted by Fred L. and Malinda Loos Whitson in 1932. She and Robert Charles Brown Sr. were married June 30, 1946, in Cape Girardeau. He died Aug. 10, 1998.

Mrs. Brown retired from Brown Co. as a secretary. She was a member of St. Mark Lutheran Church, former Sunday school teacher and member of the Noonshiners. She was the first councilwoman for St. Mark Church, past chairperson of Dorcus Circle, former Girl Scout leader, retired captain of the Civil Air Patrol, and past district chairperson of the March of Dimes.

Survivors include four sons, R. Charles (Doreen) Brown, Fred W. (fiancee Laura Lee) Brown Sr., James W. (Cris) Brown, Joseph L. Brown, all of Cape Girardeau; a daughter, Linda K. Williams of Cape Girardeau; a sister, Wilma Jo Schnare of St. Charles, Mo.; two brothers, Norman "Pete" Whitson of Tilsit, Mo., Rich E. (Anita) Richardson of Biloxi, Miss.; eight grandsons; two granddaughters; seven great-granddaughters; and six great-grandsons.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, and a daughter, Becky Foister.

Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Friday at Ford and Sons Mt. Auburn Chapel.

The funeral will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at St. Mark Church, with the Rev. Michael S. Malone officiating. Burial will be in Lorimier Cemetery.

Memorial contributions may be given to St. Mark Lutheran Church.
