SIKESTON -- Dorothy I. Ashbaugh, 91, of Sikeston died Tuesday, Feb. 29, 2000, at Missouri Delta Medical Center. She was born Aug. 13, 1908, at Lebanon, Mo., daughter of Rob and Rebecca Ellen O'Dell Dennis. She and Robert J. Ashbaugh were married Dec. 24, 1935, in Piggott, Ark. He died July 28, 1996...

SIKESTON -- Dorothy I. Ashbaugh, 91, of Sikeston died Tuesday, Feb. 29, 2000, at Missouri Delta Medical Center.

She was born Aug. 13, 1908, at Lebanon, Mo., daughter of Rob and Rebecca Ellen O'Dell Dennis. She and Robert J. Ashbaugh were married Dec. 24, 1935, in Piggott, Ark. He died July 28, 1996.

Ashbaugh received a bachelor's degree in music and a music education degree from Central Methodist College at Fayette in 1930.

She taught music at Gideon, Clarkton and Rolla schools. While living in Clarkton, she taught piano, directed choirs and was organist at Clarkton United Methodist Church.

The Ashbaughs moved to Sikeston in 1969, and she became a member of First United Methodist Church. She was instrumental in forming the Allegro Music Club, helped re-establish the Community Concert series in Sikeston, and helped organize the Missouri Kiwanis Boys Choir.

She was a piano teacher, choir director, church organist and teacher many years.

Survivors include a son, Col. Michael Ashbaugh of Albuquerque, N.M.; a daughter, Jo Anne Smiley of St. Louis; a brother, Roy Dennis of Lebanon, Mo.; two grandsons; and two great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by a son.

Friends may call at Nunnelee Funeral Chapel from 5-8 p.m. Friday.

Funeral will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at First United Methodist Church, with the Revs. Jim Davis and Sandra Schaller officiating. Burial will be in Mt. Gilead Cemetery near Clarkton.
