Doris P. Windeknecht, 77, formerly of Jackson, passed away Friday, Jan. 22, 2010, at the Lutheran Home in Cape Girardeau.
She was born April 5, 1932, in Egypt Mills, daughter of Elmer and Margie Bryant Borchelt. She and Earl W. Windeknecht were married Dec. 29, 1951, at Trinity Lutheran Church in Egypt Mills. He passed away Sept. 20, 1982.
Doris was baptized and confirmed at Trinity Church in Egypt Mills. She was a member of St. John's Lutheran Church at Pocahontas, where she served on the Altar Guild. She loved quilting and was a member of Cape Girardeau Chapter of the American Quilters Society.
She was a unit secretary at Southeast Missouri Hospital in Cape Girardeau, retiring in 1999.
Loving survivors include two sons, Randy (Martha) Windeknecht, Joel (Shelly) Windeknecht; a daughter, Mary (Jeff) Morton; a sister, Elnora Heise; a special cousin, Elmer LaClair, all of Jackson; and six grandchildren, Joshua and Nathan Windeknecht, Chelsea Wichern, Shelby Morton, Sierra and Cheyenne Goss.
Friends may call from 4 to 7 p.m. today at McCombs Funeral Home and Cremation Center in Jackson.
The funeral will be at 1:30 p.m. Monday at the funeral home, with the Rev. Mark Martin officiating. Interment will follow in St. John's Lutheran Church Cemetery at Pocahontas.
Memorials may be made to Saxony Lutheran High School.
