Doris Elda Gihring, 82, of New Wells, Missouri, passed away Jan. 26, 2021, at the Lutheran Home in Cape Girardeau.
She was born Feb. 25, 1938, in Farrar, Missouri, daughter of Reinhold and Marie Luehrs Koenig. She married Norman Petzoldt, April 18, 1959, and he preceded her in death on Aug. 18, 1972. She then married James Gihring on July 12, 1975, and he preceded her in death on Jan. 3, 2007.
Doris loved to garden, enjoyed bird watching and taking care of and raising many breed varities of chickens. She was a hard worker helping in the milk barn and taking care of her family. She was a 4-H project leader and also worked with the LWML at her church.
Loving survivors include five sons; Larry (LaDonna) Petzoldt, Altenburg, Missouri, Gary (Christine) Petzoldt, Jackson, Terry (Debbie) Petzoldt, Kansas City, Kansas, Duane (Wendy) Petzoldt, Jackson, and Mark (Christal) Gihring, Altenburg; and a daughter Sherry (Robert) Piazza, Old Monroe, Missouri.
Also surviving is a brother, Elmer (Donna) Koenig, a sister-in-law, Verna Koenig; 18 grandchildren; and 9 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents, both of her husbands, a brother, Armin Koenig, sister, Irma Recker, and a granddaughter, Brandy Jacobs.
The visitation will be Saturday from 9 a.m. until service time at Immanuel Lutheran Church in New Wells.
McCombs Funeral Home and Cremation Center in Jackson was entrusted with the final arrangements for Doris.
The funeral service will follow at 11 a.m. at the church with the Rev. Roger Steinbrueck officiating. Interment will follow at Immanuel Lutheran Church Cemetery in New Wells.
The family suggests that contributions be made to the LWML -- Mites at Immanuel Lutheran Church in New Wells.
