FAIRVIEW HEIGHTS, Ill. -- Doris M. Pind Buckley, 92, formerly of Cape Girardeau, passed away Tuesday, April 7, 2020, at her home in Fairview Heights.
She was born Jan. 25, 1928, to the late Don and Mamie Stephens Pind, the only girl of four children.
Doris was a Cape Girardeau Central High School graduate with the class of 1945. At a very young age, she was employed at Florsheim Shoe Co., then many years with Dr. Melvin Kasten and the Cape Surgical Clinic. She was a former president of Cape Girardeau Medical Secretaries and was joint owner/operator of Ramada Inn in Fairview Heights and several hotels in Florida. Her most precious duties were to love and care for her husband, Tom Buckley, and her three sons and their families.
A devoted wife and mother, Doris had many wonderful years with her husband. Fun-loving and affectionate, they were avid tennis players and constant travelers, making bi-yearly cross-country road trips together, stopping to visit family, and enjoying the sights and landmarks of the U.S.
A highlight in recent years for Doris was fulfillment of a long-time dream to take her three boys to Denmark to visit the family home where her grandfather was born. Always ready to help where there was a need, they were an ideal of generosity, loyalty and kindness and a model example to their family and friends.
She will be most sorely missed.
She is survived by her husband of 45 years, Thomas G. Buckley; sons, Terry (Janie) Wright of Cape Girardeau, Steve (Gayle) Wright of Ramona, California, and Kieth (d. Maureen) Wright of Fairview Heights; stepchildren, T.R. (Linda) Buckley of Jupiter, Florida, Mitch (Laura) Buckley of St. Louis, Mark (Kathleen) Buckley of Waterloo, Illinois, and Patricia (Jim) Koeller of Fenton, Missouri; 12 grandchildren; and 12 great-grandchildren; brother, Max (Carol) Pind, and sister-in-law, Aileen Pind, all of Cape Girardeau; and several nieces and nephews.
Along with her parents, she was preceded in death by brothers, Lindell and Willis Pind, both of Cape Girardeau, and her first husband, Gene Wright of Jackson.
There will be a celebration of her life at a later date.
Cremation is under the direction of Teat Chapel in Fairview Heights.
