Doreen Margaret Whitaker, 76, of Jackson died Thursday, Oct. 18, 2007, at her home.
She was born April 14, 1931, in Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada, daughter of Stanley Everett and Ida Margaret Lenfesty Weismiller. She and Carlton Whitaker were married June 21, 1958, at the family home in Victoria, British Columbia.
Mrs. Whitaker graduated from Royal Jubilee Hospital School of Nursing, and graduated from Emmaus Bible College in Chicago.
She and her husband were missionaries in North Africa from 1961 to 1969. She then was emergency room supervisor at Southeast Missouri Hospital, and then worked with student health services at Southeast Missouri State University. She retired in 1998 from American Red Cross Blood Services.
Mrs. Whitaker was a member of Cape Bible Chapel and active with its youth ministry, and was a volunteer at Child Evangelism Fellowship of Warrenton, Mo.
Survivors include her husband; four sons and daughters-in-law, Bob and Robyn Whitaker of The Woodlands, Texas, Ray and Lauren Whitaker of Alpharetta, Ga., Mark and Melissa Whitaker of Oak Ridge, Brent and Rhodena Whitaker of Rockwall, Texas; a brother, David Weismiller of Victoria; and 11 grandchildren.
A memorial service will be held at 3 p.m. Saturday at Cape Bible Chapel, with the Rev. Dan Greene officiating. A fellowship time with family will follow the service.
