Donald Robert Underwood, 58, of Centerville, MO., died Wednesday, Jan. 10, 2007, at St. Elizabeth's Hospital in Belleville, Ill., after a courageous battle with cancer.
He was born Feb. 5, 1948, in San Pedro, Calif., to Louie "Pete" Underwood and the late Dorothy "Tina" Underwood.
He spent most of his childhood and high school years in Scott City. Don served in the U.S. Navy during the Vietnam War before moving his family to Belleville where he worked as a truck driver several years. He most recently worked as a miner for the Doe Run Co. Don loved to camp, fish and spend time with friends.
In addition to his father, he is survived by two sons, Robert Underwood of Smithton, Ill., David (Sheila) Underwood of High Ridge, Mo.; a brother and a sister, Russell "Rusty" Underwood and Theresa Miller, both of Scott City; five grandchildren, Corey and Chelsie Underwood both of Smithton, Tyler, David, and Dylan Underwood of High Ridge; a dear friend, Elizabeth Thomas of Cahokia, Ill.; best friends, David (Dorothy) Hahs of Troy, Ill., and Tommy (Charlotte) Knupp of Scott City.
Don was dearly loved and will be missed by all who knew him.

Friends may call from 4 to 7 p.m. Sunday at George Renner and Sons Funeral Home in Belleville.
The funeral will be held at 10:15 a.m. Monday at the funeral home, with the Rev. Doug Stewart officiating. Burial with full military honors will be in Jefferson Barracks National Cemetery in St. Louis.
