Donald Kirn

Donald F. Kirn, 82, a long-time resident of Cape Girardeau and Perryville, Missouri, passed away early Sunday morning, Aug. 11, 2019, in the comfort of his home, surrounded by his family.

He was born April 11, 1937, in Perryville to George and Frieda Gegg Kirn. He was a brother to Gerald Kirn, Harold (Judy) Kirn, Wayne (Dianna) Kirn, Terry (Mary) Kirn, Kathleen (Rut) Paulus, Carol (Victor) Klaus and Jeanette Hoch, all of Perryville.

Don married Mary Edna Zahner on June 1, 1957, in Perryville. He loved her with all his heart and let her know how thankful he was God brought her into his life. Together they had five children, Tanda (Darrick) Smith of Cape Girardeau, Dean Kirn of Lenexa, Kansas, Scott (Rhonda) Kirn of Jackson, Mike (Patti) Kirn of Jackson and the late Mark Kirn. Also surviving are six grandchildren, Crystal (Deric) Brown, Jordan (Jonathan) Cunningham, Bethany Miget, Blake Smith, Lexi Smith and Megan Smith; two great-grandchildren, Bryce and Alexis Brown; and a sister-in-law, LaDonna Kirn of Cape Girardeau.

He was preceded in death by his parents; son, Mark Kirn; brother, Roger Kirn; and brother-in-law, Neil Hoch.

He was a member of Rock of Cape Church in Cape Girardeau. He loved his wife, family, friends and neighbors, who he appreciated so much. His kind, gentle spirit and smile were always present, and when you met him, you knew his joy was from his relationship with Jesus.

He was a man of many talents, and he wasn't afraid to tackle any project. He enjoyed working many years as a salesman, and he and his wife owned and operated several restaurants and a cleaning business.

He loved spending time with his family, fishing (especially his trips to Table Rock Lake and Timber Creek) and watching the Cardinals play baseball.

He will be missed by all who knew him.

Visitation will be from 9 to 11 a.m. Friday at La Croix United Methodist Church in Cape Girardeau.

Memorial service will follow at 11 a.m. Friday at the church, with Pastors Mark Carbaugh and Jim Davis officiating.

In lieu of flowers, the family has requested donations in memory of Don and Mark Kirn to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital.
