Donald Lewis Freeman, 58, of Cape Girardeau died Friday, Oct. 23, 1998, at Southeast Missouri Hospital.

He was born Sept. 8, 1940, at Hartford, Kan., son of John Frederick and May Belle Holton Freeman. He and D. Jeannie Hengst were married Dec. 1, 1963, at Cape Girardeau.

He and his wife owned and operated Cape Tree Service Inc. and Freeman Crane Service for 32 years.

He had been the superintendent of the Tree Division for the city of Savannah, Ga., and a contractor for Southwestern Bell. He was also a member of the International Society of Arborculture.

He served in the Army in Korea and Germany and was a member of VFW Post 3838 in Cape Girardeau.

He was a member of Hanover Lutheran Church.

Survivors include his wife; a son, Donald Lee Freeman of Bloomsdale; two daughters, Robin Marie Gaither and Jamie Sue Freeman, both of Cape Girardeau; three brothers, Ralph Freeman and Charles Freeman, both of Windsor, and Dale Freeman of Calhoun; five sisters, Shirley Krueger and Kathryn Bass, both of Emporia, Kan., Patty Hutchison of Old Appleton, and Barbara and Maxine Herron, both of Windsor; four grandchildren; and a step-grandchild.

Friends may call at Ford and Sons Mount Auburn Chapel today from 4 to 6 p.m.

Funeral will be at 10 a.m. Monday at the chapel. The Rev. Jeffrey Sippy will officiate, with burial at Egypt Mills Trinity Lutheran Church Cemetery. Military services will be conducted at the cemetery by VFW Post 3838.
