Funeral service for Donald Roberts Coleman, 1719 Brookwood, will be held at 2 p.m. today at Ford and Sons Mt. Auburn Chapel. The Rev. Cy Smith will officiate, with burial in Memorial Park.
Friends may call at the chapel from 11 a.m. to service time.
Coleman, 84, died Thursday, July 3, 1997, at his home.
He was born Jan. 28, 1913, in Carbondale, Ill., son of Edgar L. and Nellie Roberts Coleman. He and Eileen Wray were married Dec. 22, 1963, in Cape Girardeau. She died Sept. 15, 1989.
Coleman received a master's degree in education from Southern Illinois University-Carbondale.
He was an elementary teacher at schools in Alto Pass, Cobden, Wolf Lake and Jonesboro, Ill. He was associated with Shawnee Schools for 19 years -- junior and senior high band director from 1953-56; assistant principal from 1956-59; principal from 1959-63; and superintendent of Shawnee District 84 in Wolf Lake from 1963-72.
Coleman was a member of Illinois Education Association. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II.
Survivors include a niece, Kay Perry of Cape Girardeau; and two cousins, Iverne Peeler and Eva Doddard of Anna, Ill.
