His love for music followed him throughout his life, starting with private drum lessons at the age of 8, continuing until age 62, when he had his stroke. Throughout his life, he played for many different groups and bands throughout Southeast Missouri and Southern Illinois, including a band he helped start in the early ’60s called the Jaguars. They were a very popular local group throughout the ’60s and ’70s. His musical talent helped him to receive a Bachelor of Science in biology from Southeast Missouri State University, where he received a musical scholarship as a parade drummer for the SEMO Golden Eagles Marching Band, the show band of the Midwest at that time.

He is survived by his wife, Terry Sanders of Scott City; a son Neil (Angie) Sanders of Smithville, Missouri; two stepsons, Mark Morrill of Scott City and Chris (Jennifer) Morrill of Cape Girardeau; two daughters, Sarah (Jeremy) Pruden and Lisa (Jody) Enderle, and a stepdaughter, Lorie (Doug) Robert, all of Scott City; a sister, Lillian (Ervin) Markhart of Hayden, Idaho; and 10 grandchildren.
