Don G. Huey, 77, of Jackson died Wednesday, April 8, 2009, at Saint Francis Medical Center in Cape Girardeau.
He was born Dec. 18, 1931, in Egypt Mills, son of Tom and Justine Hengst Huey. He first married Marie Reimann on Dec. 18, 1951. She preceded him in death Sept. 5, 2001. He then married Sharon Williams on June 1, 2002.
Huey worked for Pevely Dairy and then for Schneider Equipment. In 1956 he went to work for McDonnell Douglas in St. Louis where he worked on the Mercury and Gemini space programs. In June 1968 he moved to Cape Girardeau and worked at Davis Electric and later at Cape Electrical Supply. In 1972 he started work at Procter & Gamble, retiring in 1994. After retiring he worked as a licensed electrician in Cape Girardeau.
He served in the U.S. Air Force from March 6, 1952, to March 6, 1956.
He graduated from College High School in 1950. He was a member of VFW Post 3838.
Survivors include his wife, Sharon Huey of Cape Girardeau; a son, Darrell Huey and wife Debbie of Cape Girardeau; a stepson, Sean Williams of Cape Girardeau; three daughters, Donna Beussink and husband Kenny, Brenda Huey, all of Cape Girardeau, Karen Lowe and husband Brian of Fairview Heights, Ill.; a stepdaughter, Patty Blaylock and husband Chris of Cape Girardeau; two brothers, George "Dude" Huey and wife Schirley Jo, Bill Huey and wife Judy, all of Cape Girardeau; three stepbrothers, Glen Nelson Floyd of O'Fallon, Mo., Walter Floyd of Oak Ridge, Charles Floyd of Delta; 13 grandchildren; and a great-grandchild.
He was preceded in death by his parents; a stepfather, Albert Floyd; and his first wife, Marie Reimann Huey.
Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. today at Ford and Sons Mount Auburn Funeral Home in Cape Girardeau.
The funeral will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at Trinity Lutheran Church, with the Rev. Douglas C. Breite officiating. Burial will be in Cape County Memorial Park in Cape Girardeau, with military rites conducted by VFW Post 3838 and Missouri Honor Team.
Memorials may be made to Trinity Lutheran School Building Fund or Saxony Lutheran High School Building Fund.
