CHARLESTON -- M. Dewey Heppe, 69, of Charleston died Monday, April 24, 2000, at Southeast Missouri Hospital in Cape Girardeau.
He was born May 10, 1930, in Supply, Ark., son of M. Dewey and Catherin Purl Heppe. He and Nina B. Harris were married June 2, 1951, in Piggott, Ark.
Heppe had worked for Galemore Motors and Ponder Chevrolet. He opened a body shop and wrecker service in 1965. He had also been a deputy with Mississippi County Sheriff's Department.
He was recognized April 8, 1999, by the city of Charleston and honored with The Dewey Heppe Day. He was made an honorary state highway patrolman and received the rank of sergeant.
Survivors include his wife; two sons, Greg Heppe of Charleston, Dewey Heppe of Marble Hill; a daughter, Karen Heppe-Moore of East Prairie; two brothers, Charles Heppe of Charleston, Earl Heppe of Essex; two sisters, Pat Gammons and Matilda Smith of East Prairie; and four grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by two sons and 11 brothers and sisters.
Friends may call at McMikle Funeral Home in Charleston after 5 p.m. today.
Funeral will be at 2 p.m. Thursday at First Baptist Church. Mike Johnson will officiate, assisted by Leroy Thornton, Lt. Jim McNiell, Lt. David Hart and the Rev. Gerald Collier. Burial will be in IOOF Cemetery with military honors.
