POPLAR BLUFF, Mo. -- Dewayne Edward Sweary, 52, formerly of Cape Girardeau, died Thursday, Dec. 13, 2018, at Poplar Bluff Regional Medical Center.
He was born Dec. 11, 1966, in St. Louis County to Raymond David and Mary Frances Penrod Sweary.
Dewayne was a graduate of Clinton (Missouri) High School.
He served in the Army during Desert Storm.
He worked as an aide and med-tech at The Lutheran Home.
He was formerly a member of Lynwood Baptist Church.
Dewayne lived most of his life in Cape Girardeau, from 1984 to 2016, at which time he moved to Poplar Bluff.
Survivors include his mother, Mary Frances Sweary of Clinton; five aunts, Edith Menz of Sikeston, Missouri, Martha (James) Ourth of Cape Girardeau, Karen Penrod of Cape Girardeau, Roslyn Marberry of Cape Girardeau and Doris (Bill) Black of Grand Rapids, Michigan; and several cousins.
He was preceded in death by his father, Raymond David Sweary; an uncle, Lorenzo "Jack" Penrod; and his grandparents, Dennis and Mary Penrod.
A memorial service will be held at 10 a.m. Thursday at Ford and Sons Mount Auburn Funeral Home in Cape Girardeau, with the Rev. Kevin Coffee officiating. Military honors will be provided by Missouri Honors Team.
Memorial contributions may be given to Wounded Warrior Project.
