SIKESTON, Mo. -- Albert Dewavon Adams, 87, of Sikeston died Tuesday, April 6, 2010, after a brief illness.
He was born June 4, 1922, in Portageville, Mo., to the late Albert L. and Annie Edwards Adams of Portageville.
He graduated from Wardell High School in 1941. Following the attack at Pearl Harbor he enlisted in the Army Air Corps and spent most of World War II at Blytheville, Ark., Air Base. While serving our country he married his love of 64 years, Frances Lillian Denton, Jan. 16, 1944.
The couple moved to Sikeston in 1952. For many years Mr. Adams was a hairdresser and co-owner with his wife of Frances' Beauty Salon and The Clothes Closet. For the past 20 years he owned and operated Adams Custom Printing. He attended First Baptist Church, where he had served as a deacon for many years previous.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Frances, May 5, 2008; his daughter, Pamela Jean; two sisters, Etta Adams and Rosaleen Downing of Arnold, Mo.; and two brothers, Arvil and Gene Adams of Portageville.
Our wonderful daddy, granddaddy and great-granddaddy will be missed by sons, Rick Adams of Sikeston, Dr. Mark Adams (Carole) of Columbia, Mo.; five daughters, Shirley Allan (Marv) of Cranbury, N.J., Susie Bringman (John Sr.) of Sikeston, Karla Bakersmith (Tom), Lana Wright (Rick), Dana Dougan (Gregg) of St. Louis; a sister, Pauline Crafton of Portageville; 15 grandchildren and spouses; six stepgrandchildren and spouses; five great-grandchildren; and 11 great-stepgrandchildren. He will also be missed by his friend, Luci Chambers.
Visitation is scheduled from 5 to 8 p.m. Thursday at Nunnelee Funeral Chapel.
The funeral will be at 10 a.m. Friday at First Baptist Church of Sikeston, officiated by the Rev. David Ross. Burial will follow at noon in Missouri State Veterans Cemetery in Bloomfield, Mo.
