SIKESTON -- Dessie Jane Ayers, 82, of Sikeston, died Tuesday, Feb. 4, 1992, at Missouri Delta Medical Center. She was born April 8, 1909, in New Madrid County, daughter of Joel Hardy and Minnie Melinda Sparks Godwin. She and Oscar Vernon Ayers were married Nov. 8, 1930, at Charleston. He died Feb. 19, 1982...

SIKESTON -- Dessie Jane Ayers, 82, of Sikeston, died Tuesday, Feb. 4, 1992, at Missouri Delta Medical Center.

She was born April 8, 1909, in New Madrid County, daughter of Joel Hardy and Minnie Melinda Sparks Godwin. She and Oscar Vernon Ayers were married Nov. 8, 1930, at Charleston. He died Feb. 19, 1982.

Survivors include a son, Vernon Ayers Jr. of Dexter; a brother, Ed Godwin of Alton, Ill.; two sisters, Rene Dover of Sikeston, Flossie Stephens of Merced, Calif.; four grandchildren, and eight great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by a daughter.

Funeral service will be at 1 p.m. today at Nunnelee Funeral Chapel. The Rev. Kelley Grubbs will officiate, with burial in Dogwood Cemetery.

Friends may call at the funeral home from 9 a.m. until time of service.
