OLMSTED, Ill. -- Denver R. Shelton, 77, of Olmsted died Thursday, Feb. 23, 2006, at City Care Nursing Center in Anna, Ill.

He was born Nov. 8, 1928, in Olmsted, son of Maurice and Pearl Shelton. He first married Betty Jean Riley, who died in 1996. He later married Norma Crecelius.

Shelton was employed 47 years with Army Corps of Engineers. He was a member of Caledonia Community Church and served on the Olmsted Library Board.

He was a veteran of World War II.

Survivors include his wife; a daughter, Pamela Helton of Olmsted; four sons, Jimmy Shelton of Metropolis, Ill., Chris Shelton of Smithland, Ky., Denver Shelton of Durham, N.C., Timothy Shelton of Cedar Springs, Mich.; two stepdaughters, Vicky Stevens of Salem, Ill., and Kimberly Gottschall of Anna, Ill.

Also surviving are two brothers, David Shelton of Barbourville, Ky., Dennis Shelton; a sister, Carolyn Rhor of Brookport, Ill.; 19 grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren; four stepgrandchildren; and a great-stepgrandchild.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

Friends may call at Caledonia Community Church from 5 to 8 p.m. Saturday. The funeral will be at 1 p.m. Sunday at the church, with J.C. Yeargin and John Windings officiating. Burial will be in Concord Cemetery near Olmsted, with full military honors by Pulaski County VFW Post 8891 of Mounds, Ill.

Jones Funeral Home in Villa Ridge, Ill., is in charge of arrangements.
