Dennis D. Sprandel, 73, of Jackson passed away Saturday, April 9, 2011, at the Lutheran Home in Cape Girardeau.
He was born Jan. 25, 1938, in Beatrice, Neb., son of C.W. and Edna Wieting Sprandel. He and Elizabeth "Betty" Palisch were married on July 6, 1958, in Jackson.
Dennis graduated from Concordia High School in Seward, Neb., and attended St. John's College in Winfield, Kan. He worked for the Johnson Wax Co., Barclay Marine and was co-owner of the former Wieser Sports Center in Cape Girardeau before he and his son Scott established D.D. Sprandel and Associates.
After his retirement in 2000, he worked for Pocahontas Lumber in Jackson, the former Capetown R-V in Cape Girardeau and was a campground host at Trail of Tears State Park near Cape Girardeau. He was a longtime member of St. Paul Lutheran Church in Jackson where he served on various church committees and was a former church elder; member of the school board; church van driver and congregational president.
Loving survivors include his wife of 52 years; two sons, Scott (Debby) Sprandel and Thomas (Tracy) Sprandel; two daughters, Susan (Steven) Skelton and Tamara (Matt) Mueller; 11 grandchildren, Rachel, Collin and Tyler Sprandel, Ryan and Logan Sprandel, Alex (Lauren) Skelton, Ben and Claire Skelton, Luke, Lane and Laurel Mueller, all of Jackson; a brother, Paul (Jan) Sprandel of Beatrice and a number of nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Otis Sprandel in 1936.
Visitation will be from 8:30 a.m. until service time Tuesday at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Jackson.
The funeral will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday at the church with the Rev. Robert Henrichs officiating.
Burial will be in Russell Heights Cemetery in Jackson.
Memorials may take the form of contributions to St. Paul Lutheran Church, St. Paul Lutheran School, Saxony Lutheran High School, Saxony Education Fund or the W.T. Palisch Endowment Fund.
