Dennis Scherer

DONIPHAN, Mo. -- Dennis L. Scherer, 52, formerly of Dexter, Mo., and Bell City, Mo., died Thursday, Feb. 2, 2006, at Barnes Jewish Hospital in St. Louis.

He was born Nov. 17, 1953, in Amarillo, Texas, son of Robert and Mona Jones Scherer.

He was a self-employed business owner of Big D's restaurants in Doniphan and Poplar Bluff, Mo. He was a member of the St. Benedict Catholic Church in Doniphan and the Knights of Columbus in Poplar Bluff.

He and Shirley Mills were married Jan. 22, 1994, at Dexter.

Survivors include his wife; his parents of Dexter; a son, James "Jim Bob" Scherer of Poplar Bluff; three stepsons, Aaron Rogers, Jeff Rogers and Brian Rogers of Dexter; a sister, Gale Scherer of Dallas; four brothers, David Scherer of Bell City, Greg Scherer of Bloomfield, Mo., Danny Scherer and Chris Scherer of Oran, Mo.; and eight grandchildren.

Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. today at Edwards Funeral Home in Doniphan.

The funeral will be at 11 a.m. Monday at St. Benedict Catholic Church in Doniphan, with the Rev. Lutz officiating. Burial will be in St. Benedict Cemetery.
