DONIPHAN, Mo. -- Larry Dennis "Dink" Avery, 69, of Doniphan departed this life Sunday, April 18, 2021, at St. Bernard's Hospital in Jonesboro, Arkansas.
Dennis was born March 9, 1952, in Kennett, Missouri, to Calvin Ray and Verla May Robertson Avery. On July 24, 1971, Dennis married Garlett Palmer in Cape Girardeau. She survives.
Dennis was a nuclear physicist engineer with the Norfork Naval Shipyard, having served in the U.S. Navy. He was a "people person" and enjoyed working with people, whether it was as a Wounded Warrior volunteer, taking kids hunting and fishing, or with people in or out of his church. He was an active member of Doniphan First Baptist Church.
Also surviving are his children, Jeanette Renee Avery of Chesapeake, Virginia, and Travis (Liana) Avery of Everett, Washington; and sisters, Linda Avery (Neal) Kimbrell of Ladson, South Carolina, and Teena Avery Haglund of Toccoa, Georgia. He was blessed with six grandchildren and 5 1/2 great-grandchildren. His grandchildren are Kyle Evans, Mathew Wayne Avery, Ashley Taelor Moseng (Patrick) Rabon, Ariel Elizabeth Moseng, Autumn Celeste Avery and Logan Tyler Avery. His great-grandchildren are Jessie, Emilee, Austin, McKenley, Greyson, Ella, Damon and Ryker. He also leaves behind scores of friends both near and far, including his lifelong best and faithful friend, Mark Stine of Athens, Alabama.
Dennis was preceded in death by his grandparents; parents; sister, "Baby Suzette Avery"; and his brothers, Gaylon "Johnny," George Anthony, Glenn Earl "Bud" and Allen Dale Avery.
Visitation will begin at noon Friday at Doniphan First Baptist Church.
The funeral service will follow at 2 p.m. at the church, with Pastor Monty Flannigan officiating. Burial will be in the Briar Oak Ridge Cemetery.
